Robert Jastrow on Science and Theology
“For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.”
- Robert Jastrow (1925 – 2008)
*Robert Jastrow, a self-proclaimed agnostic, was an eminent American astronomer, physicist and cosmologist who was probably best known as the founding director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies. This quote was taken from his notable work, “God and the Astronomers,” which expounded the big bang theory and the argument from design.
